Spyro Reignited Trilogy collected the original PS1 games together in a remastered collection with vastly improved graphics and gameplay improvements, with many fans holding out hope that it would lead to a proper revival of the franchise. While Spyro continued to be featured in the Skylanders video games, the main platforming game franchise remained dormant until 2018 when Toys for Bob produced Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Spyro went on hiatus after The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, only to be used to push Activision's new Skylanders franchise a few years later. Despite this, sales remained high enough to justify new main series Spyro the Dragon games coming out on an annual basis until 2008. Spyro the Dragon and its sequels were some of the premiere exclusives for the PlayStation 1 console, though the franchise lost a lot of its quality when the IP left Insomniac Games.
Toys for Bob has seemingly teased some kind of Spyro the Dragon-related announcement for 2023 as the popular purple platforming mascot celebrates his 25th birthday this year.
